The incident took place around 11:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, after Wilton Police were notified of a social media post involving a possible school threat, said Wilton Police Lt. Robert Kluk.

The post was part of a group chat in which a juvenile suggested the threat of violence directed toward a Wilton School, Kluk said.

Members of the Department’s Patrol and Youth Division were able to immediately identify the juvenile that sent the post.

Officers contacted the juvenile’s parents at 1:00 am on Friday, Sept. 13, who brought the juvenile to the Wilton Police Department to be interviewed.

"The interview of the juvenile revealed that it was not meant as an actual threat and was never meant to be carried out," Kluk said. "The juvenile appeared remorseful and understood the consequences of his actions."

The juvenile was arrested for threatening and released into the custody of his parents. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Throughout the investigation, the juvenile and the parents have been cooperative with investigators.

Kluk said that at no time did there appear to be a viable threat to the public or school community and the department stresses that there is no active threat to the public or school community.

The Department coordinated with the Wilton Public Schools at the onset of the investigation and continues to communicate.

"The safety of the schools in our Wilton community is always a priority of the department," he said.

In light of the investigation, the department has increased its presence and visibility in the school areas.
